Our Spanish Specialist

JORGE SIVIT

Spanish Teacher

Jorge has been studying foreign languages and, what’s more important, his own native language—Spanish—since he was a child.

While many native speakers will say they didn’t do anything special to learn Spanish, he vividly remembers verb conjugation practice in the 1st grade class, and grammar analysis in the 6th grade class.

This is why he doesn’t buy the learn-like-a-native-child recipe to learning a language.

He delved in the study of languages—including Spanish, English, German and the language of music—at high school and UAM faculty of education, where he also trained as a teacher.

He has taught Spanish for 15 years in Spain, Germany and Japan, and discovered that there is a gap between what language experts know, and the information that language teachers give their students—normally because teachers themselves are not willing to make the effort to understand what’s behind their native language patterns.

Jorge has been able to show Spanish learners what’s inside the native speaker’s unconscious mind.

He is behind all our learning materials AND personally replies to all students’ questions, using email and Skype as an extension of our online platform.

"I'm most often teaching, writing, thinking or dreaming about languages. I speak Spanish, English, German and Japanese, and continue studying them regularly.

I also have to get some movement every day: hiking, climbing, skateboarding, yoga... I normally work on a standing desk, and I love reading, cooking, and playing around with my two daughters."

Our Graphic Designer

MARIONA GRAU

Graphic Designer

& Illustrator

Mariona has been in love with art and design since she was a little girl. After she graduated from Art High School in Barcelona, she obtained her diplomas both in Advanced Illustration and Advanced Design.

She's, of course, a language lover, and a multilingual herself, speaking Spanish, Catalan, English and French.

She worked for big companies in Spain, until she moved to New South Wales, Australia, where she stablished her own graphic design studio (marionsdesign.com), to help small companies, start ups and entrepreneurs.

Her first collaboration with Light On Spanish resulted in our first website and the current logo. Since then, she has created beautiful illustrations both for our website and our learning materials, and designed most of our printable materials for teachers.

What we love about Mariona is her capacity to understand our needs for each project, and present relevant and well-funded proposals. Her attitude is not only professional:

Mariona has educational superpowers when it comes to help the team understand her solutions.

Now you know who is responsible for the amazing illustrations in the Ser, Estar & Haber Masterclass.

"When I'm not designing, sketching or painting, I like to go for long walks in NSW's forests, mountains or beaches, and take pictures. I love to spend some time working in my garden after a hard work day at the studio. And cooking is my second passion."
